The Wonders of the Human Brain!
There are approximately 100 billion neurons in the human brain.
In essence, your brain works through populations of neurons interacting with each other. Much of this interaction is through tiny electrical oscillations or brain waves.
What is MeRT?
MeRT stands for Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. In simple terms, MeRT employs the use of noninvasive magnetic waves directed at specific areas of the brain that are not communicating or connecting as they should, to gently stimulate those regions. We use thorough diagnostics to isolate exactly what is happening in each patient’s brain. We then develop a customized treatment plan to stimulate and “wake up” regions of the brain affected by a variety of neurological conditions. And we have seen a vast array of benefits, improvements, and in many cases miraculous achievements.
The neurons in the brain can be disrupted by many factors.
The behavior between your neurons can be adversely affected by factors such as:
- An injury to the head or repeated injuries
- Chemical exposure
- Addiction
- Disease or illness
- Developmental disorders such as Autism, Learning disorders, ADD, ADHD
- Extreme stress, anxiety, or trauma
- Congenital conditions
These disruptions can be significant or minor. One’s threshold of tolerance varies from individual to individual. Some people can still function in their day-to-day activities, while others are completely debilitated and have no quality of life. But what is truly incredible is that with a little gentle stimulation in the right direction, brain function can be improved.
The MeRT Process
Our technology is a precise process to restore function.
Through sophisticated imaging, diagnostics, and analysis of your brainwave activity, we can identify disruptions to your brain network and build treatment parameters specifically tailored for you. In most cases, we are able to reshape brainwave activity, regardless of what may have caused the disruption to begin with.
The MeRT platform is a patent-protected process that has been undergoing rigorous research by the Department of Defense and several private institutions for years now, with great success.
MeRT Approach
We deliver targeted treatment parameters to give you the best possible outcomes.
Through our expertise in neuroscience and the use of sophisticated diagnostics and imaging, we can decode and classify functional indicators in the brain that we can address with individualized treatment tools.
As a result, we can identify exactly where the brain waves are not communicating properly and use this technology to restore proper function. As a result, MeRT technology can reshape the activity in the brain, regardless of what caused the dysfunction.
How Does it Work?
MeRT is simply a treatment protocol that uses the combined technologies of rTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram, and EKG (Electrocardiogram) to tailor treatment protocols to each person’s unique brain wave patterns. It is nothing like electric shock therapy — we direct no electricity at the brain, only magnetic waves that gently stimulate brain activity. You can see in the video above how easy and gentle this treatment is.
The miracles of MeRT include the fact that it is non-surgical, non-invasive, painless, and completely drug-free. It is simply the use of magnetic waves to reprogram dysfunctional electrical signals in the brain to restore function.
“Everyone has a unique frequency…”
“What we’ve learned is that everyone has a unique frequency or unique signature. All of us during our waking hours, we’re looking for something called an alpha frequency where our brain most comfortably operates in. It’s basically a cycle rate where we’re all somewhere between eight and 13 Hertz. And you might be, for example, an 11.4 Hertz brain. I might be an 8.9 Hertz brain. And somebody else may be a 10.3 Hertz brain. It’s just kind of where we’re born. But when we get these brain images, whether it’s through the physical trauma of a blast injury, or the chemical trauma of years of drug use, or the emotional trauma of seeing a loved one pass away, we may find areas of the brain that are not cycling at the same rate as the rest of our cortex. …
“EEGs (electrical pictures of the brain) can tell us when there are abnormalities in neural networks. …We can look at these signals and find areas that are abnormal, [then we] use this FDA cleared technology, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, to navigate to the area that’s not working properly and try to stimulate it and remind it that it wants to fire at a certain frequency and a certain rate.”
– Dr. Erik Won, President of Wave Neuroscience, from his appearance on the Broken Brain podcast
The Four Steps to MeRT
Evaluation
First, we will perform a q-EEG and an EKG to determine the frequencies in the brain and the brain-heart coherence. Once we complete these tests, our scientists and physicians will interpret and analyze the results to determine the exact function of the brain.
Analysis and Protocol
Using the data gathered from testing, we then develop a tailored treatment plan for each individual with the goal of restoring function and brain communication.
MeRT Treatment
Once your treatment protocols are in place, you will come to therapy for five days a week in two-week intervals. All you need to do is to sit in a comfortable chair while a highly trained neuro-technician places a magnetic coil on your head. This device produces a low-frequency magnetic field which induces mild electrical signals in the targeted areas of the brain. The time you spend in the chair is typically 30 minutes, with stimulation occurring for six to eight seconds every minute. You will be required to close your eyes during the six-to-eight-second periods when the magnet is being used.
Progress Evaluation
Once you’ve completed two weeks of treatment, we will perform an additional qEEG and EKG so we can track your progress and make any needed modifications. Additionally, we will monitor your progress throughout your daily treatments to confirm how you are feeling and to track improvements.
To achieve optimal success results from MeRT, most conditions require six to eight weeks of treatment.
Results are based on strict compliance with our treatment regimens. Results may vary based on each individual and are not guaranteed. Currently, MeRT is FDA approved to treat Major Depressive Disorder. Treatment for all other conditions is considered “off label” at this time, although we do anticipate FDA approval soon for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Also, numerous studies have shown the effectiveness of MeRT treatment on various conditions, and research is ongoing.
Common Benefits of MeRT Treatment Can Include:

How to determine…
Is MeRT the Right Treatment?
Reading this, you may be interested but uncertain if MeRT is the right treatment for you or your child. However, this is not something you need to decide right away, as you have many steps to take before making a much more informed decision.
Your first step is a simple one: A phone consultation with our New Patient Coordinator, where you can ask all the questions you want and discuss your symptoms and history. She will also explain the protocols, fees, and details of treatment.
The next step is also simple and consists of two appointments. At your first appointment, we will perform an EEG, a completely painless and non-invasive brain scan. This takes about 45 minutes. Then, your second appointment will be a consultation with the doctor. This happens several days later once we have analyzed the results of your EEG.
At this one-on-one consultation, the doctor will discuss the results of the imaging and diagnostics and what may or may not be treatable with MeRT. He will also answer your questions, so together you can determine if MeRT would be beneficial and what the treatment would entail.
If you and the doctor then decide to move forward with MeRT, we will conduct an Assessment Period. This is a short period of treatment followed by a new EEG to see if you are responding well. We assess this based on the new EEG results compared to the testing done at the start of treatment, as well as any symptom improvements.
If you have a positive response to treatment during the assessment period, you will have most likely seen symptom improvements. At that point, we can schedule you for the additional treatment duration.

At the end of your treatment, we can provide you with the appropriate paperwork to submit to your insurance company. They then can inform you if they can provide any reimbursement for treatment.
Currently, rTMS is FDA-cleared for Major Depressive Disorder and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.) Treatment for all other conditions is considered “off-label” at this time.
However, some patients have reported that they have been able to receive some insurance reimbursement for EEGs or clinical evaluations, depending on their health coverage. Medicare patients, on the other hand, have reported that their coverage provides no reimbursement. Additionally, it is highly unlikely that any insurance will provide reimbursement for the actual treatment of non-FDA-cleared treatment.
It is important to note that studies are currently underway, and we are hopeful that treatment for TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) will be FDA cleared at some point in the next couple of years.
Additionally, we take all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
